Coburg Historical Society
About us
The Coburg Historical Society, a voluntary organization, is dedicated to the preservation of Coburg’s history, Victoria, Australia. We are open to all who share our values and would like to be members. The society was established in 1972 by the former Coburg City Council. Since 1994, when the City of Coburg was merged into the City Of Moreland, the society has been working to preserve, promote, protect and preserve Coburg’s history.
The society’s aims and objectives are, in essence, to encourage and promote study of Coburg history, to encourage the compilation and acquisition of records related to Coburg, as well as to preserve and make available items of historical significance.
Committee of Management
The Committee of Management governs the society. The Committee of Management is made up of volunteers drawn from the membership and responsible for the day to day and strategic management of the Bluestone Cottage Museum and the society. The Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is held annually, elects the committee members. Any financial member of the society can stand for election to this committee.
The Coburg Library Meeting Room is where the committee meets most often (usually 11 times per annum).
Museum
The Bluestone Cottage Museum can be found in the heart Bell Street’s oldest home. This museum houses the society’s vast archival collection. It also features many exhibits about Coburg‘s history and the cottage.
