Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital

The 19th May 1947 was the date that the hospital was transferred in the hands of the Army over to the Repatriation Commission and became known as Repatriation General Hospital Heidelberg. In the meantime, the Repatriation Commission (Department of Veterans Affairs) was the operator of the hospital from 19 May to 31 December 1994. In the years leading up the hospital’s transfer into the system of state hospitals,, the name was changed to the current title – Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.
The hospital was integrated to the Victorian health system on the 1st of January, 1995. The hospital was merged with Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and Austin Hospital merging on the 1st of April 1995 to create Austin & Repatriation Medical Centre.
Since the 30th April 2003, a name change, accepted by the Victorian Government, saw the Austin & Repatriation Medical Centre name replaced with Austin Health.
