Moreland Community Childcare Centres
Moreland Community Child Care Centres Inc. is a non-profit community-based organization with four centres in Brunswick. They offer quality early learning programs based on best practices. Children can explore their unique talents, intellect and creativity in a safe, nurturing environment. Our education programs incorporate sustainability and environmental awareness. We create centres that are low-impact and promote the well-being of staff and children.
Our program is based upon the Early Learning Years Framework (ELYF). We offer an integrated kindergarten program that is taught by qualified teachers. Education, social interaction and community participation are all important to foster a love of learning and a sense of belonging for children.
Our history
Each of Moreland Community Child Care Centres Inc.’s (MCCCC), has its own identity, but we all share the same commitment of providing high-quality early education programs for our children.
The Moreland Child Care Futures Project was launched in December 1996 to make use of funds provided by the Commonwealth Department of Human and Family Services. It was intended to help community-managed childcare centres plan for the elimination of operational grants and changes in child care fee relief.
The City of Moreland was commissioned to provide recommendations for ensuring the long-term viability of community-based child-care centres. One of the most important recommendations was to consider amalgamation.
In August 1997, Moreland Community Child Care Project was established. It included representatives from Brunswick Community Child Care Co-operative on Mitchell Street, Brunswick Turkish Child Care Co-operative on Tin Street and Dunstan Reserve Child Care Co-operative. They all signed a Memorandum of Understanding in order to explore amalgamation.
The Project Steering Committee recommended that a combined structure be used.
- Promote the provision of high-quality child care services
- Each centre must be financially viable to ensure its long-term viability
- Be flexible and responsive to the needs of your local community
- Ensure that the community and users are held accountable.
Each Committee of Management presented a recommendation for amalgamation to its members in 1998. The final decision was taken by a postal vote, as required under the 1996 Co-operatives Act.
The merger was approved and the new cooperative was formed on 10 August 1998. The licenses of all three co-ops were transferred in December 1998 to the Moreland Community Child Care Co-operative.
MCCCC was officially incorporated in October 2012. This allowed for a formal legal structure to be established. Our name officially changed to Moreland Community Child Care Centres Inc.
All staff and parents are encouraged to participate in the development, implementation and resourcing of policies at our centres. This allows us to improve and maintain all services.
